Position 1: Speech & Drama Teacher (Trainee)

We conduct communication skills classes for student ages 7 to 18 years, mainly focusing on preparing them for the Trinity College London Communication Skills exams which assess students in the following areas:

⚪ Verbal and non-verbal communication
⚫ Conversation and discussion
⚪ Critical thinking and problem-solving
⚫ Research and reflection
⚪ Presentation
⚫ Persuasion and negotiation
⚪ Planning and preparation
⚫ Usage of equipment and materials to aid communication
⚪ Interpersonal

Our programmes also focus on developing a range of other skills that are highly valued by schools and future employers, skills such as self-motivation, ability to learn and adjust, working to deadlines, teamwork and flexibility.

Role & Responsibilities

⚪ Support the classroom teacher in any manner as delegated by the principal or senior teacher.
⚫ Support the classroom teacher to deliver lessons effectively and enthusiastically.
⚪ Work closely with students during class activities.
⚫ Enforce classroom management procedures adopted by the classroom teacher.
⚪ Prepare the classroom for a conducive learning environment.
⚫ Ensure the safety of students at all times.
⚪ Always be respectful and professional towards staff and teachers.
⚫ Build rapport with students and parents to build trust and confidence.
⚪ Be present at least 10 minutes prior to the start of classes.
⚫ Assist in cleaning the classroom after each lesson.
⚪ Report to principal or senior teachers.

Trainee teachers who show potential will be promoted to teaching positions with higher remuneration after the probationary period and given more opportunities to teach. Those not meeting expectations may not continue after the probationary period. Probation period may vary depending on performance.

Position 2: Speech & Drama Teacher (Freelance)

J Carter Centre is seeking dynamic and creative Speech and Drama educators to coach children ages 7 – 12 years in public speaking and performance skills.

⚪ Candidates with some experience in teaching public speaking or drama to primary students is preferred.
⚫ Candidates should have a good command of the English Language (spoken and written) and be able to conduct classes in a fun and exciting manner.
⚪ Candidates should possess a recognised qualification in relation to the position such as Theatre, Speech & Drama or Communication Skills.
⚫ Classes are available on both weekday (Wed/Thu/Fri from 3:30pm to 7pm) and weekend (Sat/Sun from 10am to 4pm). Number of classes offered will depend on the experience and ability of the candidate.
⚪ Candidates must be willing to undergo some training before teaching any classes.
⚫ Attractive hourly wage on class or semester term, freelance basis.
